Recent Community Events Sponsored By Martin Walker P.C.

At Martin Walker, P.C., we are always proud of our community involvement.
In recent months, we have hosted both the Arcadia Art Show which featured the works of multiple local and international artists, and the Fall Into Luxury Fashion Show, which showcased fashions curated by local Tyler designers.
Our offices in the Arcadia Theater on the square in downtown Tyler have allowed us to support community events like these throughout the year. We also sponsored the showing of four classic legal movies including To Kill a Mocking Bird at the historic Liberty Hall Theater during the month of September.
And, of course, we're always active in the Tyler and East Texas communities, like when our own Jack Walker spoke at the Tyler City Council in a successful effort to help bring the Uber ride sharing service to the Tyler market.

City Council Approves City Ordinance Allowing Uber in Tyler, Texas

The Tyler City Council has approved a revision of a city ordinance that will allow ride-sharing companies to operate within Tyler, Texas. Uber will officially launch operations in Tyler this fall.  Tyler is now the fourteenth city in Texas to adopt a ride-sharing friendly ordinance.
The advantages and benefits of having a service like Uber in Tyler are excellent for our community, and we had a big part in bringing the service to Tyler. In addition to increasing the overall level of modern conveniences available to us in Tyler, we think a modern, convenient service like Uber will decrease late night, alcohol-related incidences in Tyler and help make the public and the streets safer in the long run. Martin Walker Law wanted to help usher in the foundation of Uber in Tyler because we saw the public safety advantages that ride-sharing services could bring to the city and the burgeoning downtown scene. The company applauded the City of Tyler for approving new "modern ride-sharing rules that prioritize public safety and access to safe, reliable transporation." Residents will now be able to go enjoy a night on the town, have drinks, have fun, and not have to worry about getting a ride home or consider driving themselves home. You just open up the Uber app on your smartphone and request a ride - your Uber will be there in minutes to bring you home safely.
Uber drivers must pass a rigorous test and background check, and have an approved vehicle to be able to drive for Uber. Bringing this service to Tyler also brings with it an added industry and economy; it gives locals the ability to make extra cash on the side, at their own pace. Beth Huddleston, Uber's General Manager, said, "We are thrilled that the City of Tyler has chosen to embrace Uber. The passage of this ordinance means that residents, students, and visitors will soon be able to get a ride or earn extra money at the touch of a button." Arcadia Art Show at Martin Walker Law

Beginning Saturday, September 10th at 6:30pm, we will be hosting the Arcadia Art Show at the Martin Walker Law Office. The art show will run until February 10th, 2017. The Arcadia Art Show is an annual international juried fine art show which features paintings, drawings, sculptures, photography and print-making - we are excited to be able to sponsor and host this event at Martin Walker Law. The Arcadia Art Show will feature local and international artists who will have their pieces judged by an International Jury. Artists may enter up to 3 different works of art for a minimum entry fee of $50, and the International Jury will award prizes to the winning artists.
Of course, we wouldn't be able to provide such an experience without the participation of our other wonderful sponsors. Cork Food & Drink and Rick's on the Square are generously providing patrons of the show with their quality culinary treats. For you wine aficionados, we will have Granny Muffin Wines providing samples of their locally grown wines. To heighten the mood Saturday evening, local musician DJ Aris will be on hand to fill the atmosphere with spacey, sonic tones followed by a higher energy performance during the after-party.
If you are interested in entering the Arcadia Art Show, or simply just wish to attend what will be an exceptional evening in downtown Tyler, visit Arcadia Art Show Tyler for more information.

Workplace Safety in the Tyler Area

Wednesday, September 21st the Texas Mutual Insurance Company will be hosting a workplace safety summit, Work Safe, Texas. The goal of the summit is to talk to people about improved workplace safety, ultimately helping to reduce the number of work-related injuries and fatalities in East Texas. A significant number of workplace accidents can be prevented by implementing and following strategic and safe work practices. This is the very reason why Texas Mutual created Work Safe, Texas. This session will focus on workplace safety in construction and the oil & gas industry. Martin Walker Law has long been a proponent of increased safety precautions in the oil & gas industry, and that is why we are taking an interest in this safety summit.
The first session will be Wednesday, September 21st from 8:00 AM to 11:30 AM at the Holiday Inn on South Broadway. If you are interested in attending, RSVP at Work Safe, Texas no later than Friday, September 16th.
